The major networks and shows for preschoolers all have websites where you can find show episodes, games and activities. Although Nick Jr., Disney, and PBS all offer some great resources and fun, educational activities for preschoolers, I find myself most often using the Sesame Street website.
...The 10th and final book in the popular 39 Clues children's book series, Into the Gauntlet, is out today. I'm taking my daughter to go get her copy after school, and she can't wait to see how the series ends. She read the first nine books over the summer and was absolutely enthralled.

In contrast to the many kids' shows today that focus on stardom, looks, and sarcastic wit, a recent DVD from VeggieTales takes a few epitomic princess stories and turns them inward, to focus on the heart. uses colorful animation and the beloved Veggies to tell a story that entertains kids as it teaches that true beauty comes from the heart, and that we are all uniquely beautiful as we are, because that's how God made us.
...It's been a great year for Disney. Two movies, Toy Story 3 and Alice in Wonderland, have grossed over a billion dollars each this year, and Toy Story 3 is touted to be the first animated movie to do so. This news is just huge for Disney, and it shows that family films can be very successful. We're talking billions of dollars here, and that's not even taking into consideration all of the related merchandise that also brings in a fair share of loot for the Mouse House. The economy may be tough for a lot of people right now, but many of us are obviously working a little family entertainment into the budget.

Kids can kick off Labor Day weekend with a bang with the premiere of Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam next Friday, September 3 at 8:00 p.m., ET/PT. Demi Lovato and the Jonas Brothers are back at camp this year, but a shocking surprise awaits them. A flashy new musical camp, Camp Star, has opened across the lake, and it looks like Camp Rock might be on the way out. Determined to save the camp they love, Camp Rockers get to work, and Mitchie ends up challenging Camp Star to an end of summer Final Jam. The winner of this televised competition will be determined by the audience. Mitchie and Shane continue the romance that began in the original Camp Rock movie, and a Romeo and Juliet twist adds tension to the flick when Nate falls for Dana, the daughter of the owner of Camp Star.

FactCheck, one of my "go-to" websites for checking on political myths and misleading information, recently published an article about deceptive political ads from a Karl Rove-connected group that attacks Democratic Senate candidates with faulty claims about the new health care law.

In an editorial in the Boston Herald published online today, the newspaper's staff said, "The notion that if you like your health plan you can keep it under Obamacare has already been proven a lie. Just ask the 200,000 Massachusetts residents enrolled in Medicare Advantage who will be forced to switch, with the elimination of that popular program."

I recently highlighted some articles I wrote about denial of health insurance claims based on medical necessity. Most health plans will not pay for healthcare services that they deem to be not medically necessary.

I have been a fan of the since it debuted last June. Tom Matlack is the founder of the magazine and the author of The Good Men Project: Real Stories from the Front Lines of Modern Manhood. I love the premise that a magazine (print or online) for men doesn't have to be all about sex, exercise and women. It can also be about fatherhood, responsibility and relationships.
...I just read a startling fact - hearing loss among teens is up more than 30% from just a few years ago. While the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association is not trying to say that it is all from personal listening devices like MP3 players and iPods, it is trying to help teens and parents avoid additional hearing loss by their "Listen to Your Buds" campaign. This campaign is about educating children and teens about the need to keep volumes coming through their ear buds at appropriate levels. If you have wondered about how loud the music is in the music player your children use, the information from "Listen to Your Buds" would be important for you.

A recent study presented at the American Psychological Association conference confirms what fathers have intuitively known for years - that a close relationship between a father and a son blesses the son throughout his life. In this study, one important finding was that men who reported having a good relationship with their father during their childhood years were more likely to be less emotional and more rational when dealing with stress in their everyday lives than those who had a poor relationship with dad. Interestingly, the correlation between the quality of a relationship with mother and effective stress management was not as predictive.

High fructose corn syrup is used in soft drinks and many processed foods because it is cheaper than regular sugar. Since it is high in fructose, some people claim that high fructose corn syrup is largely responsible for our bigger waistlines.

The recent and massive has many people wondering about egg safety and how (and if) eggs in the United States are inspected. Eggs are part of most people's diets and every link in the egg production chain is periodically inspected, but as the recent egg recall demonstrates, problems with Salmonella contamination still exist. The Food and Drug Administration recently updated their final rule for egg safety to prevent Salmonella contamination of eggs.
Some people blame large egg producers and agri-business in general and want tougher regulations and more frequent inspections by the Food Safety and Inspection Service, but others don't trust government agencies at all. Leave me a comment to let me know how you feel about food safety, the egg recall and the government agencies involved.

Is your preschooler ready to go to summer camp? Many preschool summer camps operate out of nursery schools and daycare centers, but there are some things parent need to take into account before they send their preschoolers to camp.

Taken from our guide Terri Mauro's great Camp Mom tips, here are some great ideas to make the summer days with your kids, entertaining, enlightening and a whole lot of fun.
...Apryl Duncan, one of our About.com guides, came up with a wonderful idea of parents coming together in a co-op babysitting group where parents would watch each other's kids for free, thus saving money and never having to worry about scarmbling for a teenage sitter you may not know or trust.
...There's nothing more important than the safety of your child, so when you or your spouse has something come up at the last minute, a go-to list of emergency providers is incredibly important when you're short on time.
...After returning to work from maternity leave, many new mothers will start to worry about their company's "mommy track", or the work-life balance your company gives working mothers. Balancing your home life with the rigors of a pressure-packed work environment is not for everyone and talking to other working moms in the company will provide a good idea of what the future will hold.

...Chances are, you're managing several schedules at once. There's your work schedule, the kids' school schedules, soccer schedules, and ballet schedules, not to mention your social life! To help manage it all, spend a few minutes updating your calendar. In addition, get into the habit of adding dates to your master calendar as soon as your kids' school papers begin coming home. For example, instead of placing the invitation to your kids' Back-to-School-Night in a pile (where it can easily get lost), write the date and time on your calendar, and throw the invitation away.
...Have you ever thought about keeping a gratitude journal? I've keep one intermittently, and the little snippets I've written down over time have featured my closest friends and family pretty frequently. I've made note of many seemingly-small efforts that have made my day, such as buying ice cream for the kids, calling to find out when school starts, and sending cards and notes of encouragement at unexpected times.

Don't get me wrong, I get why they'd be upset pregnancy-wise, but realistically and statistically, conception doesn't work that way.

Labor Day is next Monday in the US and I have always thought it was funny to be in labor on Labor Day. I actually came very close two years ago, having my daughter on Labor Day Weekend. But she was born the day before Labor Day, August 31st. It was a lovely water birth, though I hadn't planned on the water birth!
...Talking to other pregnant women and mothers was something I didn't quite appreciate when I was pregnant as much as I realize now. It was the groups that I joined and the friendships that I formed with each of my pregnancies that really helped me learn and grow as a parent.
